MANISTEE RIVER MGP REMEDIATION

Industry: Utilities

Location: Midwest

Result: Sustainable Environment

Coordination with Multiple Companies and Government Entities Central to the Project’s Success

White Lake Dock & Dredge, a division of ENTACT, executed the dredging of 30,000 cubic yards of manufactured gas plant (MPG)-impacted sediment from a half mile stretch of the Manistee River. The sediments were solidified with Portland cement in lined dewatering pits prior to disposal at the landfill. This project was successfully completed while navigating the complexities of a busy waterway, ensuring environmental compliance and operational efficiency. On this project, our team:

  • Dredged 30,000 cubic yards of MGP-impacted sediment
  • Managed sheen within a narrow channel, heavily trafficked by residential boats and large industrial ships
  • Coordinated with multiple agencies including railroad and shipping companies, United States Coast Guard, United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the State of Michigan
  • Performed diver-assisted hydraulic dredging over an adjacent utility corridor
  • Installed more than 7,000 cubic yards of various sand and aggregate materials along the shores of the navigation channel after dredging operations
