Soil Mixing & Treatment

ENTACT has been an industry leader in soil mixing solutions for over 27 years, treating and/or improving the strength properties of millions of tons of clean as well as impacted material utilizing various soil mixing techniques. To support our soil mixing efforts, ENTACT operates an in-house bench scale laboratory capable of performing treatability/geotechnical studies for impacted and non-impacted media. This valuable resource enables us to control costs and more importantly, control the quality of the study. In addition, we have many proprietary reagents for various treatment scenarios, possess our own specialized soil mixing equipment, and employ some of the most experienced professionals in the industry.

In-Situ Solidification/Stabilization (ISS)
ENTACT has successfully performed in-situ solidification/stabilization (ISS) of millions of tons of impacted soils, sludges, and sediments in an effort to control valence states, buffer pH, increase bearing capacities, reduce leachability, reduce permeability, prevent durability impacts, and remove visible sheens. We utilize company owned and rented ISS equipment such as conventional and long reach excavators, specialized buckets, and horizontal and vertical augers. Additionally, we have designed, fabricated and built specialty configurations to amend equipment as needed for project specific needs.

Ex-Situ Treatment
ENTACT has successfully self-performed ex-situ treatment including solidification/stabilization of millions of tons of impacted soils, sludges, and sediments to reduce toxicity and leachability, buffer pH, and moisture condition to pass paint filter test for off-site transport. Our experienced staff and field crews, supported by our in-house treatability and geotechnical lab, implement effective ex-situ treatment remedies using our own recommended reagent blends and specialty equipment. Ex-situ treatment of impacted materials has been completed within fabricated containment areas utilizing excavator buckets and metering devices for precise reagent delivery. Additionally, we have designed, fabricated and built specialty configurations for project specific needs. Ex-situ treatment operations are overseen by ENTACT’s quality control team responsible for guiding equipment operators, monitoring the treatment process, and sampling/testing treated material as needed to ensure project objectives are achieved.

Chemical Fixation
ENTACT utilizes chemical fixation technology to immobilize or stabilize contaminants in order to render material non-hazardous. Similar to solidification/stabilization, chemical fixation requires the blending of reagents with the contaminated material. The reagents used during the mixing and blending process is selected based on the nature of the material and the contaminants.

Chemical Oxidation
Chemical oxidation is another cost-effective and viable remediation technology to treat contaminants in soils, sediments, and groundwater by transforming the contaminants into less toxic by-products. Once a representative sample has been analyzed and the chemicals of concern are identified, bench scale testing is performed by ENTACT specialists in order to determine the type and quantity of reagent to utilize.

Chemical Reduction
Chemical reduction is another cost-effective and viable remediation technology to treat contaminants in soils, sediments, and groundwater by reducing the contaminant concentration, generally over a longer period of time with reagent like zero valent iron. Once a representative sample has been analyzed and the chemicals of concern are identified, bench scale testing is performed by ENTACT specialists in order to determine the type and quantity of reagent to utilize.

Bioremediation
Bioremediation technologies utilize naturally occurring microorganisms to metabolize and degrade organic contaminant impacted soil into less toxic substances providing a cost effective alternative to excavation and off-site disposal of impacted soils, and restoration with imported clean fill materials. The bioremediation technology most suitable for a specific site is determined by several factors, such as site conditions, indigenous microorganism population, and the type, quantity, and toxicity of contaminant chemicals present. ENTACT has successfully performed bioremediation of petroleum impacted soils at numerous refineries utilizing ex-situ technologies including bio-pile, biocell, and landfarming operations. Our extensive environmental remediation experience has resulted in the ability to optimize environmental conditions in order to enhance the growth of microorganisms and increase microbial population resulting in improved degradation of hazardous substances.

Wet Soil Conditioning
Wet soil conditioning technologies have been implemented for contaminated soil, sludge, and sediment treatment in an effort to increase bearing capacity and enhance durability while reducing the leachability and/or permeability of the treated material. ENTACT’s bench scale treatability/geotechnical laboratory is capable of tackling any type of study for impacted and non-impacted media, regardless of waste stream.
